Fat Straws is All in on the Unique Treats

Dallas is all about new sweet treats this week. Next on the docket are mochi donuts, hand dipped Japanese-style donuts made with matcha.
Fat Straws Bubble Tea Co. is opening a new Richardson shop this Saturday, June 1 at 1251 W. Campbell Road, Suite 230. The company says it that it will be the very first business to serve the Japanese dessert in Texas.
Since 2002, Fat Straws has been serving bubble tea and milkshake concoctions to Dallasites. This will be the company’s fourth shop in the Dallas area and will include a 2,800 square foot kitchen to produce mochi donuts for all of its outlets.
The donuts are chewy inside and crispy on the outside. They’re made from a Japanese rice flour called mochi flour. All of the sweet treats will be hand dipped and will only use organic fruits and ceremonial grade matcha.
As for being the first business to sell these donuts, Fat Straws co-owner Terry Pham says it’s simple.
“Over the last 16 years we’ve really tried to stay focused on what we do: make great bubble tea,” Pham notes. “We’ve been searching for something to complement our product, but nothing has stood out.
“That all changed last year when I had my first Mochi Donut. And like all of the amazing experiences in my life, we had to share it.”
Donuts can be paired with a popular drink, such as Fat Straw’s traditional milk tea, infused flavored teas, or tea-inspired shakes. Tapioca pearls are made fresh daily and coffee will be provided from a local Richardson company.
The Grand Opening of this new Fat Straws takes place this Saturday, June 1 from noon to 10 pm. The first 200 people in the store will be entered into a raffle to win Fat Straw drinks for a year. The first 100 people will receive an envelope with prizes inside such as free drink cards, free donut cards, reusable straws, T-shirts and gift cards.
These Japanese donuts are debuting in style.
